15 Kg is an ongoing series of un-stretched foldable paintings that have been shipped in suitcases and exhibited between London, Italy and Cape Town.
The series’ title refers to the maximum weight to be carried on low-cost airlines such as Ryanair. The paintings are visual enquiries about the connections between freedom, gesture and mental structures, outcome of an ongoing research on late capitalistic rituals and obsessions about food, body, spirituality, accumulation, consumption and waste. Painted on both sides, the canvases retain the marks of a process of stretching, un-stretching, folding and burning as well as the traces of their displacement.
